About the Reed Maker! 

Paul Barrett has served as principal bassoonist with the Honolulu Symphony

and Lecturer in Bassoon at the University of Hawaii since 1977.

He attended the Interlochen Arts Academy, the Eastman School of Music,

and has a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from the Cleveland Institute of Music.

He studied bassoon with

Gerald Corey, George Goslee, Leonard Sharrow, K. David van Hoesen and Norman Herzberg,

and studied reed making with the legendary reed maker Louis Skinner.

He also worked in various chamber music ensembles under the direction of

John Mack, Myron Bloom & Marcel Moyse.
